September Bake Sale
SP, Andrew Hill, D12S
On September 17th, I attended the Division 12 South Bake Sale. It was an event to raise money for home clubs by selling various delectables to members and peers while they watched Big Hero 6. I joined Key Club this month in September, so this was my first Division Event. I felt so motivated to support my home club and baked chocolate and matcha brownies at home following a recipe I found online. On the day of the event, I brought the trays of brownies and helped out with concessions. This was such a fun bonding moment as I got to meet officers from different home clubs and the DLT. I felt so welcomed to be there and the brownies sold so well. While this wasn’t a service event, I was recognized for my service as a member helping out my club at the bake sale. This is an event I would recommend for newcomers so they can meet officers from around Division 12 South!
Plant For A Pal
BY, El Camino, D34N
On September 25, 2022, some of our club members attended the Plant for a Pal event in San Bruno Park. At this event, we decorated plastic pots and planted flowers inside them. After we completed them, we had the choice of donating to our local arboretum or giving it to a friend! Our favorite part was being able to feel the fresh air outside, while we decorated alongside our fellow 34 North members. Overall, the event was a great way to relax and spend time with those from other schools, as well as those from our own!
Spirit Competition
KN, Hoover, Division 21
This week, Hoover’s Key Club held a spirit competition for potential spirit leaders to lead the chants in preparation for Fall Rally South. We had about eight people volunteer to be a part of the spirit committee with three duos and two solo acts. They would all demonstrate their leadership skills and show how spirited they are with two of the three chants we gave out, which are ‘D21, How Do You Feel?’, ‘Appreciate You’, or ‘Good Job.’ They were all very energetic and did very well demonstrating the chants, but as a club, we all decided that we would choose the top three acts by the members with an anonymous form so it would not get too crowded, but there would be enough people to lead the chants.
Food Frenzy
AF, Orange Vista, D37N
On September 30th, Orange Vista’s Key Club participated in the Food Frenzy. At Food Frenzy, all of the organizations and clubs at our school can choose to sell a certain item to raise money. At the event, Key Club was selling Mango, Strawberry, and Coconut popsicles. With it being over 90 degrees outside, the stand was a huge success and students were lining up to get themself a popsicle. Officers Xitlali Franco and Francine Tran were one of the 5 who helped run the stand, and were promoting the event to all of their peers. Once the event was over, our club was almost sold out of the variety of popsicles we had!!
BakeR-TC
CW, MVHS, D37W
The BakeR-TC was one of the most memorable division meetings our club has gone to yet. On the 17th of September, our leaders and even some members of our club attended the Regional Training Conference at Guajome Park Academy to go through a training exercise about Key Club and what we as a whole stand for. The day included us going to different presentations about Key Club so our leaders could learn more about their duties in the club while members had the opportunity to learn more about the Key Club and Kiwanis organization in general. Having this opportunity to attend only helped create relationships between members and leaders without there being an awkward power imbalance because officers have more duties to do inside of the club compared to the members of the MVHS Key Club. Also, in this event we had our first spirit session for the upcoming Fall Rally South in November. Fall Rally South allows members of different Key Clubs all around Southern California to attend an event at Six Flags to show off spirit and to make connections and friendships with new people. Having events like the RTC only allows our club to feel more connected, which is something we want to achieve.
