Thanksgiving Imu
NFD, Castle Key Club, D22K
On November 23 and 24, 2022 Castle Key Club had a joint project with King Builders Club to prepare an imu for Thanksgiving at King Intermediate. On the first day, members set up the imu by breaking down banana stumps using an ax, laying a metal fence post over the scorching rocks, laying the stumps and ti leaves over the metal fence. Then, members placed pans of food on top and covered the pans with banana leaves, burlap bags, and tarp. When everything was in place, members placed dirt around the edge of the tarp to keep the heat in. The next morning, members scraped the mud off the tarp, took off the the leaves, banana leaves and burlap bags, and took out the pans of food. Then members rinsed the burlap bags. The pans of food were taken to the pick-up point and members helped those picking up the food by checking them out and putting the food in their vehicles. It was a fun experience seeing food cooked in an imu.
Turkey Donation
MM, Kaua’i Key Club, D22M
Kaua’i High School Key Club donated 10 turkeys to the Kauai Independent Food Bank on the Monday before Thanksgiving. This is a yearly donation that we participate in during the Thanksgiving season and we are proud to be a part of. As Thanksgiving is a time for giving and gratitude, Kaua’i High School Key Club donates these turkeys in hopes to provide food for those in need. Furthermore, we hope that these turkeys also provide a meal for families and friends and give them an opportunity to spend time with the people who are special to them.
Christmas Chalk Walk
RN, El Cerrito, D02N
We held another chalk walk at our local elementary school, Harding! Chalk walks are one of our most popular events, beloved by both our members and elementary students! In the spirit of the holidays coming up, the theme of this chalk walk was Christmas, so there were lots of snowflakes, reindeer, and Christmas trees to be found. It was great to see some new members come out and bring their friends for a fun afternoon of chalky hands and appreciative messages, and we’re looking forward to seeing them at our weekly meetings and future events!
November Food Distribution
ER, American Canyon, D08
This month’s food distribution was an absolute banger! We were in stations giving out boxes of food to the cars in line, as well as some shrimp! The sunset accompanying this event was a majestic touch to such an incredible event. It was lots of fun!
UC Berkeley Field Trip
YB, Concord, D26N
On Thursday, December 8th from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm, members of Concord High’s Key Club and CSF participated in the club’s first college field trip of the year at the University of California, Berkeley! On this trip, members from both Key Club and CSF went on a self-guided tour across the campus, heading to specific locations that aligned with the majors and areas that members were interested in. Members explored the various libraries and lecture halls to the surrounding food spots and shopping outlets! This was definitely a memorable trip, especially considering the UC Berkeley students who also attended the trip and gave great advice about the culture surrounding the school. Keep in mind that Key Club and CSF are attempting to organize a second college trip sometime in the future, and hopefully many more in the coming years.
