Fall Festival
AB, High Tech HIgh, D21
This month our Key Club volunteered at High Tech Elementary Explorer’s Fall Festival. We helped set up booths on both Friday evening, and Saturday morning. We supervised games and concession booths and helped clean up when it was over. It was great to interact with the community and children.
Day Out With Thomas Event
AF, Orange Vista High School, D37N
On November 6, Orange Vista’s Key Club helped run the “Day Out With Thomas Event” hosted at the Southern California Railway Museum in Perris. At the event, families from all places were invited out to enjoy a day full of fun that revolved around Thomas the Train. Our very own member, Gissel Adame, had the chance to run the gaming tent where kids of all ages went to complete activities, such as the tossing game. Our spirits were honored to have the chance to participate in such an informational and joyful event that helped bring our community together!
San Diego Habitat for Humanity
EP, Westview, D37S
I volunteered at the Escondido ReStore for the San Diego Habitat for Humanity. Throughout the day, I handled interactions with customers, such as greeting them, assisting them in finding items, and helping to finalize purchases. When not working with customers, I completed other tasks around the store. These tasks included receiving incoming items, labeling the price of these items, and sorting them within the facility. I also reorganized existing merchandise in order to create room for the new products. Reorganizing consisted of cleaning the areas, checking for labels, and moving furniture to a correct location while maximizing space.
North County Food Bank
CW, D37W
On November 19th, we volunteered at the North County Food Bank in Vista, California. The Key Club members who attended were able to help package goods and snack packs for children and families in need. It was really informative to learn about what the North County Food Bank stands for in regards to giving back to the community through acts of service and kindness. The values they preached aligned with Key Club’s, and it was cool to see another organization that also prides themselves on helping those who need it most. Other groups also packaged produce and vegetables for families who can’t afford groceries from the grocery store. After the day was done, we were very proud of ourselves for helping the most we could. We will definitely be working with them more in the future and we will keep preaching about giving back to the community.
Campus Beautification
NH, Kaiser High School, D22H
On November 23, from 2:20-3:30 PM, Kaiser Key Club participated in a campus beautification led by our Student Government. We had about 7 Key Clubs join us that day. We first met in a classroom to discuss more about the issue and what we were doing that day. We decided that splitting up into 2 groups would be the best. One group took the right side of campus and the other did the left. In the end we managed to collect around 20 bags of trash.
Overall, I believe the janitors are very happy that we helped them. The janitors that are in charge of the area to clean were tired because of the amount of trash that would come after recess and then lunch. We are glad to have helped them take a well deserved break. Hopefully more projects like these will come in the future as it is a good opportunity to help our school.
