Thanksgiving Imu

NFD, Castle Key Club, D22K

On November 23 and 24, 2022 Castle Key Club had a joint project with King Builders Club to prepare an imu for Thanksgiving at King Intermediate. On the first day, members set up the imu by breaking down banana stumps using an ax, laying a metal fence post over the scorching rocks, laying the stumps and ti leaves over the metal fence. Then, members placed pans of food on top and covered the pans with banana leaves, burlap bags, and tarp. When everything was in place, members placed dirt around the edge of the tarp to keep the heat in. The next morning, members scraped the mud off the tarp, took off the the leaves, banana leaves and burlap bags, and took out the pans of food. Then members rinsed the burlap bags. The pans of food were taken to the pick-up point and members helped those picking up the food by checking them out and putting the food in their vehicles. It was a fun experience seeing food cooked in an imu.
