Bell Flower Tree Lighting

NN, Lakewood, D13N

On December 2nd, the members of D13N had a service event for the Bellflower Tree Lighting at Downtown Bellflower Friendship Square! Once most people who volunteered arrived, we were each assigned a duty: trash duty and snow duty. 3 of us (Myself, Jacob Arce, and Estela Vasquez) were assigned trash duty, while the rest of the volunteers were assigned to the snow area. Their duty was to help people get up off the sleds and hand them back to the worker on top of the tiny snow hill. Friendship square was filled with cheerful people wanting to see Santa and the Christmas Tree light up! There was Christmas Caroling, Santa, snow sledding, and other fun activities to do while there. The Bellflower Tree Lighting was such a nice experience to have even while it was raining.

Sandwich Making for the Homeless

JR, Gahr, D13N

In accordance with the holiday of Thanksgiving, Gahr Key Club held an event that aimed to make sandwiches for the less fortunate. On the 22nd of November, all volunteers met up at Liberty Park to begin assembling and packing the sandwiches. While I was there, I expected only volunteers of Gahr to be there, however there were others from the Division, which reminded me of how highly interconnected Key Club is. As well as the sandwiches, we wrote encouraging notes for them. We ended up creating more than the amount we were originally hoping for which was delightful. As with every service event, it felt good to serve the community. However, writing notes made the project all more intimate. As this is my first year in Key Club, I hope to attend more service events because of how enjoyable this event was to me.

Thanksgiving Service Week

DT, North Torrance, D19S

During the week of November 21st, the week of Thanksgiving, our club gave back by hosting our annual Thanksgiving donation drive! Each day of our service week was a different theme of donations. Monday’s theme was ‘cleaning supplies' so members donated items such as disinfectants, windex, hand soap, laundry detergent, trash bags, paper towels, etc. The second day was ‘household supplies’ for items like blankets, toiletries (e.i. women’s hygiene, soap, lotion), shower curtains, mops, welcome mats, etc. The third day’s theme was ‘unopened food and drink’ and members donated items such as coffee (keurig), granola bar, pretzels, chips, cookies, herbal tea, etc. Day four’s theme was ‘good condition clothing’ with warm clothing such as jackets, shirts, socks, pants, sweatshirts, underwear, etc. And lastly, our final day’s theme was ‘children’s items’ where members could donate items such as children’s clothes, toys, shoes, books, coloring books, markers, etc. At the end of our drive, we donated all the donated items to local homeless shelters and the children’s hospital.

Night Picnic

LV, Etiwanda, D15N

Etiwanda held their annual Pre-Fall Rally as an opportunity for members to make up any missing Fall Rally requirements in substitution of a division Pre-Fall Rally on November 4th! My officers and I planned this event as our Night Picnic Potluck, where members brought all sorts of foods ranging from pizza to wings to desserts and more! First, the night started with dinner where members dove into the different variety of foods brought to the table. Soon after, we introduced our Monthly Independent Service Project for the month of November, Dog Toys! While some members continued to eat, other members were eager to complete their service project and many different groups worked together to create many adorable dog toys, which they later got to test out on some of our members’ dogs that they brought to the picnic! We ended off the night with teaching our members a few spirit and battle chants in preparation for our division spirit wars and Fall Rally. We ended off the long night with an intense spirit battle between two groups of our members and lots of fun pictures to memorialize this experience for a long time! From a president’s viewpoint, this event brought so much joy to my heart to be able to see all my members work together in creating service projects and feeling super energetic and competitive when it came to spirit cheers. I honestly can’t wait to see how much closer our members will continue to become, and I’m confident that our members are ready for what Fall Rally has to offer!

Keysgiving

AP, Temple City, D10N

To celebrate Division 10 North and South’s gratitude for their loved ones, what Key has provided, and all aspects of their life, they gathered at Rosemead Park on November 28 from 3-5 p.m. to spread that thankfulness for each other. As some Key Clubbers suffered from post-Fall Rally South sadness, they boosted their moods at the annual KEYsgiving with their division and D10S. Planned and hosted by D10N LTG Chloe Liu and D10S LTG Annabel Lee, we spent the hours together making leis and participating in services to celebrate the fall season. Arriving at the park, we waited for all attendees to check in and arrive. Upon all arrivals, we began with splitting up between D10S & D10N for updates. We then split into groups five to 6 between D10N&S. Forming these groups, began our first activity- building a two-story stable structure with marshmallows and spaghetti. After the activity, we moved onto the dcm portion where Key Clubbers got to choose between making leis and coloring Color-A-Smile for service hours. After about an hour, we began the fundraiser, smashing PIEs into our LTGs and EAs faces. With being able to bond and hangout with friends before the first day of school and at the end of the break, we were able to bring up our moods and show our gratitude, thankfulness, and love for one another and our divisions.
