Cards for the Palolo Chinese Home and Hale Kuike
JS, 'Iolani, D22H
Making cards for the Palolo Chinese home and Hale Kuike has not only been rewarding for the Key Club members, but has also brought so many smiles to the elderly’s faces. This ongoing project is open throughout the entire year for members to decorate and design thank you cards consisting of positive messages. This past month to celebrate Father’s Day, members created cards to give to the elderly homes. In total, 170 cards have been donated, bringing joy and wellness to the kupuna. When the elderly received these cards, many of them felt touched by the members' kind words and affirmations. The members of Key Club are forever grateful for the kupuna, which is why writing these letters makes many of the members feel fulfilled. Even just a bright message has made the elderly feel happier, making the hard work into creating these cards worth it. We hope that the 170 cards donated has made many of their days, even during the tough ones. The main goal of these cards is to uplift the kupuna through the member’s positivity and heartfelt messages.
D23 June DCM
IS, Dayton, D23
This past month I attended and helped lead the June Division Council Meeting (DCM). This DCM was in collaboration with Division 45 so it was a great opportunity to connect with the D45 Lieutenant Governor. At the DCM we went over old and new business, participated in a Color-A-Smile Service event, and played online and in-person bonding games! This event was a blast as I was able to connect with so many new members and have a good laugh with them when we played the bonding games.
Tennis Tutoring
LF, Coronado, D28E
Tutoring tennis is really fun, and a great way to practice tennis and also have fun with my friends and other kids over the summer! I basically run them through drills and help them develop skills so they can get better at tennis and love it as much as I do.
Cards of Hope Service Project
BR, El Camino, D37W
On July 23rd, El Camino Wildcats gathered together at MLK Park to tackle our service project for last month, Cards of Hope! Cards of Hope is a volunteer ran program that distributes volunteer-made birthday cards from all across the globe to kids in foster care. El Camino got to work, and their beautiful cards did not disappoint! Thank you for continuing to make our community a better place Wildcats! <3
July Cleanup
DH, Helix, D31
Closing out our summer and prepping for the new school year, Helix Key Club had one of its monthly cleanups in collaboration with the Kiwanis Club of La Mesa; this time with our Lieutenant Governor, Filsan Saeed, and another member from Grossmont Middle College Key Club. Seven Helix volunteers met at the local Albertsons’ parking lot at 8:30 AM on Saturday, July 1st, with GMC volunteers joining up shortly after. Going down the streets, volunteers worked diligently to remove unwanted debris, finding several interesting things along the way; animal carcasses and droppings galore. It was a good two hours before volunteers finally went home; clearing three trash bags worth of garbage from the streets. While I was personally reluctant to hold a service event over the summer, members really came through and made this one of our more successful cleanups. This was Helix’s first time hosting Key Club members from another school. While it felt a little odd at first, I think it was a great way to open up future collaborations, and I’m excited to see more Key Clubs working together. This wrapped up Helix’s July events and moving on, our officers worked hard to prepare for a new year of service.
