D04E Fourth of July Yankee Doodle Dog Show
A.N., Canyon, D04E
One of the highlighted service events that occurred this month was the 4th of July Yankee Doodle Dog Show, which took place at Canyon High School.
Among the numerous entertainment options that the event offered, we were in charge of a face-painting booth. Majority of the customers were children, so it was a great feeling to know that we were involved in making their experience more enjoyable and fun!
We assisted the faculty there in both the setup of the booth and cleaning the aftermath of the event, ensuring a smooth and efficient process from beginning to end.
It was a successful event and a fun memory to share with the other Key Club members that attended.
D04N Knotts Berry Farm Volunteer Event
M.B., Westminster, D04N
On June 9th, we participated in a volunteer event where we would assist the parents/chaperone a child with autism at Knotts Berry Farm.
We went on many rides, mostly the ones at Camp Snoopy since the child we chaperoned was very young and it was their first time at Knotts. After 3PM, we were able to roam freely and go on our preferred rides.
Overall this was a very fun day!
Celebrating Holi
NY, Galena, D23
Hi, I’m Yazhini Arunprakash, I’m an upcoming junior at Galena High School. Holi is a celebration where Hindus and non-Hindus come together to have fun banter by throwing coloured powder at each other. Getting to celebrate this event, at Reno, was truly memorable. There were choreographed dances; many food and drink stalls; and a DJ playing songs. This cultural atmosphere drove a bond between all of us, where we were all laughing, running, and dancing. It created a community.
Officer Training Conference
CG, Santa Rosa Key Club, D32
On Wednesday, June 26th, Division 32 held its third Divisional Council Meeting (DCM) of the term via Zoom, in conjunction with their Officer Training Conference (OTC). During the OTC, officers from 7 out of 8 clubs in Division 32 attended and participated in workshops, including sessions for presidents and secretaries presented by district board members D2S LTG Emily Nguyen, D8 LTG Michelle Han, D10S Oralee Tran, and DCON Chair Tristan Decious.
Officers had the opportunity to learn more about their roles and the essential duties involved in being a Key Club officer. Beforehand, members received a program and message from the Lieutenant Governor. Afterward, they were provided with a Google Drive containing all the presentations, as well as an additional slideshow titled "Key Club 101" for future reference.
5K for Veterans
RR, River Valley, D14
This month our Key Club volunteered at a veterans 5k! I volunteered at the kids' table we had at the end of the run and cheered runners on as they completed the 5k. At the kids' table, we set up the games, modeling clay and bubbles for the kids, as well as guided them through the table. On the running path, we held up posters letting runners know what direction to go and cheered them on. We rang bells and encouraged them to keep running! Overall it was a great event and everyone who volunteered had a nice time helping out at this event.
