Surfrider California Coastal Cleanup
ADC, Jefferson, D34N
During the Ocean Beach Cleanup, we were given bags and gloves to go around the beach to pick up trash. At first, we didn't see too much trash because we saw another group of people who were also cleaning the beach up, so they had cleaned up in the area we started in. After walking on the beach for about 10 minutes, we came up on some small pieces of trash. This included bottle caps, fragments of paper and plastic, and shards of glass. After about half an hour we came up to the part of the beach that had an overhang from the Great Highway road, so we ended up finding more trash, which were a lot more glass shards, bottle caps, and some other questionable objects that didn't belong there. When the time was around 1:10 we started heading back after realizing we were about a mile from where we started. My group ended up with a decently full bag towards the end of the beach cleanup event.
Interclub Beach Cleanup
RB, Kauai, D22M
In collaboration with Kapaa High School Key Club, Kauai High School Key Club helped out at Lydgate Beach on September 23. After all the members signed in underneath a tent, members split into groups and went to work. One job members had to do was to shovel up sand to help level out the ground, while others raked up loose junk from the ground. After that, members went to work with people of the Friends of Kamalani and Lydgate Park to help them pull this huge stump onto their trailer. Near the end, we put all of the junk everyone collected into the trailer and dumped it out somewhere far away from the beach. This event was definitely an enjoyable experience for me, as not only were we able to work with our neighboring Key Club.
but we got a lot done and the beach looked a lot cleaner.
First Meeting
JE, Royal, D42E
We had the first Key Club meeting of the year, which was a huge success; we had over 100 people show up! We were so happy to see so many people excited for Key Club and eager to make a difference in our community. During the meeting, we passed out cookies and got to know many of the members. We introduced each board member and what Key Club is all about. In addition, we explained what steps member had to take to be in good standing and be eligible for a graduation cord. Finally, we discussed some of our upcoming service projects. Overall, we had an amazingly successful first general meeting!
Outstanding October
EH, West Ranch, D16N
On September 30th, 4 of our WRKC officers attended the Avengers-OTC. It was a fun and informative day with lots of presentations made for different officer positions. We also learned more about the amazing impacts of being an organ donor from the sponsor of the event.
Recently, WRKC hosted our first meetings of the new term. On September 21st, we had an opening meeting after the club rush. The attendance exceeded our expectations and we are elated to welcome so many new key clubbers! Furthermore, on October 4th, we had a follow-up informational meeting on dues, long-term service projects like atria, the fall rally, future spirit sessions, and more!
As we now enter the fall season, we have many more activities to come. Project Linus invites WRKC to participate in Make-A-Blanket Day on October 28th. Through this event, participants will be able to make memories creating blankets for critically ill or traumatized children.
12Tea Night
MB, West Ranch, D23
I had a spectacular time at the Karaoke Night at 12 Tea! It was fun getting to see and socialize with all my friends. We played cup pong, had a raffle, listened to fun karaoke songs, and got delicious drinks while supporting the Pediatric Trauma Program. I hope there is another event like this because it was super amazing!
