Relay For Life
SB, Eleanor Roosevelt High School, Division 15 South
On May 13, Eleanor Roosevelt's Key Club collaborated with the American Cancer Society for the Relay For Life event. Relay For Life is an annual event that honors cancer survivors and those who have passed away. Our volunteers engaged in various activities during the event. Some members and officers helped raise funds by selling stickers or bracelets, while others assisted in serving breakfast and dinner to attendees. Eleanor Roosevelt Key Club achieved second place for raising the most money at the event. In the afternoon and evening, our volunteers participated in games such as bobsled races, musical chairs, and a sponge game. We extend our gratitude to Ashley Nguyen and Jasmine Hwang, the co-presidents of the American Cancer Society, for inviting us to collaborate with them in this event.
Monrovia Kiwanis Parade
GD, Monrovia High School, Division 35 West
During our city's Monrovia Days, we joined our adult Kiwanians in marching down the city parade. We arrived as early as 8 AM to assist the Kiwanis in setting up and preparing for the parade. Our members helped hold the Kiwanis banner and distributed candy to spectators throughout the event. Participating in this parade not only celebrated the accomplishments of the Kiwanis branch but also highlighted Key Club's contributions. By providing this service, we strengthened our connection with the adult branch and fostered a positive relationship with them.
Teacher Thank You Card Project
AT, Clovis West, D05N
With the end of the school year being right around the corner, our Key Club recently organized a special Teacher Thank You Card project to express our gratitude for the incredible educators at Clovis West. Club members gathered together to create beautiful thank-you cards for our teachers and staff members. Each card was personalized with heartfelt messages and artistic designs. We hand-delivered these amazing cards to each teacher last week. The project allowed us to reflect on the impact teachers have had on our personal and academic growth. We recognize the countless hours they invest in our education and the care they provide in shaping our futures.
PB&J Sandwich Making
ML, Kalani, D22H
While we only had one event in the month of May, we are very proud of what we accomplished through the PB&J sandwich making. Key Club members sat in table groups and worked together to produce delicious sandwiches. Not to worry, all participants made sure to slather on a good amount of jelly and peanut butter! Our creations were given to Saint Elizabeth Church, which distributes these sandwiches to those in need. During the activity, members were able to mingle and chat with people they may have never met. Once the sandwiches were done, we slipped them into Ziploc bags for distribution. In addition to the meals, we also wrote cheerful messages on sticky notes for the recipients. We hope that in our small way, we helped to nourish those who may not have access to food. Our members always love this event, so we will be sure to host it again in the future.
Kiwanis Special Games
AS, Menlo Atherton, D34S
It was an event of athletic competition for specially-abled students. Most of the key club officers as well as a number of members took buses to the event to help out. The club also got the entire Menlo Atherton football team to come. The event lasted several hours and took place during school hours.
