Boba and Spam Musubi Fundraiser
RT, Valencia, D30N
On June 1st, Valencia High School Key Club started off the new term strong by hosting a boba and spam musubi fundraiser to raise money to donate to the Pediatric Trauma program. Our board members worked hard together by having an after-school meeting to create a poster and spending hours making homemade spam musubis to sell at the fundraiser. We also coordinated with a local boba store called Sharetea to buy boxes of boba that we could sell at the fundraiser. The fundraiser took place after school by the lunch tables and was a great success as the club sold out in 15 minutes. Overall, the fundraiser was a great success as we were able to sell out over $450 of food and drinks. Everyone had a great time and we hope to do an event like this again!
Senior Surprises
BR, GALA, D13W
On June 6th, GALA Key Club members and officers made personalized senior surprise gifts such as personalized hedgehog photos with each of our senior officers as well as a senior video. We started a new tradition with the senior surprise and are now planning to continue it annually as a commemoration of our GALA Key Club senior officers. Each senior enjoyed receiving their hedgehog from the officer taking their spot in the new term. This was a great way for the seniors to say goodbye to Key Club, pass their role to the next officer, and keep a token to remember Key Club! The senior video included videos of Key Club memories and thank yous to our seniors (the video also included clips of each of the seniors receiving their hedgehog). This video was posted to our GALA Key Club Instagram and was shown to the seniors, which they all seemed to enjoy! The final thing we did was an end of year potluck where we had lots of delicious foods and drinks provided by members and parents! This was a great way to end off the term, and everyone seemed to have a lot of fun!
Fight For Hunger
LN, Skyline, D02N
On May 27th, Skyline Key Club officers and members worked with the organization, Fight for Hunger in Oakland to help distribute food for those in need, Our 6 volunteers were able to pass out over 800 meals in the duration of 2 hours! The day consisted of working in the kitchen, packing meals, and handing out roses to folks in the community. This service allowed us to build stronger bonds with our members as we had our ups and downs during the day. It was fulfilling to see how all the work we did made an impact on those around us. Our gestures were able to form a smile on the faces of others.
New BHS Executive Board
HC, Burbank, D16S
This month Burbank Key Club got a new executive board! Burbank’s executive board has many committees such as Kiwanis Family, Recycling, Spirit Commissioner, Spirit Design, and Assistant to Secretary, Treasurer, and Bulletin Editor. The officer board held interviews over the span of four days, where we asked questions like “What is your key club moment?”, and “What are your goals as an executive board member?”. Asking questions like these allowed us to get an idea about the applicants’ personalities as well as work ethic, and other valuable qualities we want to see in our executive board! Overall, we are so excited to work with our new executive board this term.
Hygiene Kit Making
AS, Escondido High School, D37E
Escondido High School assembled hygiene kits for the homeless on Monday, May 22. At this event, the members created baggies filled with helpful items such as soap, shampoo, sunscreen, etc, in order to donate to the Salvation Army to distribute out to the homeless. This event went surprisingly fast, with 100 bags being filled in only 15 minutes! This event couldn’t have been done without the grant they received from Dave Schmitt through the help of our Kiwanis advisor, Mike Montanari. A big thanks to the 27 members that came to help, as well as Kiwanis President Ron and incoming president Gene. This event was a big success and they’re looking forward to making many more hygiene kits for the homeless in the future!
