Summer Olympics
HS, Hillcrest, D15E
On July 19th, keyclubbers from various divisions gathered to participate in the D15 Summer Olympics! Throughout the day, we played many fun games like tug of war, capture the flag, and more! It was super fun being around new people and competing against other divisions for the gold medal, making it an unforgettable experience. This event gave our members the opportunity to meet new people and make more friends. Not only was it a day filled with games and excitement, but it also helped build a stronger community within our division!
June DCM
BR, D35W
On Saturday June 28, our D35W seals met up at Dalton Mark in Azusa for our June Divisional Council Meeting (DCM)! From 12:30 to 2:30, D35W each club shared their events of the month, presenting their accomplishments for June and goals for July. Big thanks to all the officers that came up to speak! For the rest of the DCM, seals enjoyed boba (all funds were donated to PTP) and bonded over bracelet making. Thank you all to those who showed up, and we hope you all have an AWESOME rest of your summer!
Fourth of July Parade
SM, Enochs, D46N
On July 3rd, Key Clubbers in our division met with Kiwanis at the American Graffiti Museum to work on the Independence Day Parade float. The Kiwanis chose to center the float around Key Club, so not only did we build and ride it, but Samantha Coronado designed it! We made what felt like millions of tissue paper flowers, giant flowers out of cardboard, and covered arches with those tissue flowers. We made a lot of progress and the entire process was really fun, but on July 4th, we still had some finishing touches to add before the parade started. We added the remaining flowers to the float and I distributed mini American flags to wave during the parade. Key Clubbers loaded onto the float and the parade soon began! It was so hot and my arms hurt from waving, but getting to (terribly) sing along to Party in the USA by Miley Cyrus while showing our Key Club spirit is definitely one of my top experiences with this club. Overall, this event was very successful and I am so hyped to continue to show our Key Club spirit (cough cough, at Fall Rally)!
Summer Camp Volunteering
AS, Damonte Ranch, D23
Working along side Michael, founder of Generation Elev8 has truly been a memorable experience. Camp counseling over summer with Elev8 has been one of my favorite volunteering experiences, seeing the confidence boost in these kids within the course of 4 days truly shows how Michales positive energy rubs off on people. Not only have these kids grown more confident within themselves but the endless laughs and smiles light up the room and remind us all what it’s like to be young and careless like we once were. My favorite part of being a counselor was when my group of girls would line up to say their goodbyes and give what they call “goodbye hugs”.
July Parade
OM, Verdugo Hills, D03N
The McGroarty Arts Center event allowed me the opportunity to assist the center while interacting with those in my community. Before the event began, we were given instructions about what we would be assisting with. Throughout the Fourth of July Parade that is hosted every year in our city, we would be handing out flyers to promote summer programs offered by the arts center. As the parade took off, I was quick to begin handing out flyers to families, which was the specific task I was given. After handing every person or child a flyer, I would offer them a few pieces of candy, and it was amazing to see people’s faces light up when I asked. Although it was relatively hot, I was distracted by trying to give flyers to anyone I was able to hand to. Regardless, the event gave me another opportunity to serve my community.
