Region Beach Cleanup

On August 3rd, Region 13 hosted its first event, a Beach Cleanup at Santa Monica Beach. Hundreds of members gathered to connect with others from different divisions, participate in service, and show their Key Club spirit! The day began with divisions setting up on the beach, each selling a variety of items ranging from vintage merchandise to delicious foods. A standout feature this year was the unique collectible bracelets sold by each division, which members eagerly traded and collected. Once everyone arrived, the Region LTGs organized four teams, blending members from all across the region. The day kicked off with team bonding activities, including a relay race where participants passed a beach ball down the line before ending with a spirited region cheer. Afterward, gloves and trash bags were distributed, and the members got to work cleaning up the beach. The opportunity to connect with fellow Key Clubbers from other divisions while engaging in meaningful service made the event both fun and fulfilling. After the cleanup, excitement continued with a tug-of-war tournament. Eight members from each division were selected to represent their team. In the first round, Division 10 North went head-to-head with the Division 15 East Manta Rays, securing a victory after a tough battle. However, Division 10 North faced a strong opponent in Division 35 West Sealies in the second round, ultimately losing the match. The Sealies continued their winning streak, clinching the tournament title. In a fun exhibition match, the Sealies faced off against the eight Lieutenant Governors—and emerged victorious once again. The day concluded with a group photo, followed by some free time until members departed at 3 PM. Overall, it was a successful and enjoyable event, leaving everyone eagerly anticipating the next Region 13 gathering!
School Volunteering
RJT, Etiwanda, D15N
To kick off Etiwanda and Rancho High School's last full week of summer break, we held a week-long event full of service at Etiwanda Intermediate School. This particular event was held from July 29th to August 2nd. On Monday and Tuesday, we assisted the Vice Principal with sorting PBIS binders for classrooms, ensuring that each classroom had the right number of papers. We also helped sort safety folders and made goodie boxes with supplies for teachers! Each goodie box contained 36 popsicle sticks, a notepad, a tin of Tic-Tacs, a huge paperclip, a Sharpie, and a pack of tissues. This was to guarantee that teachers also had the provided supplies for the next school year. On Wednesday and Friday, we helped teachers decorate their classrooms for the upcoming school year. Our volunteers went from door to door, assisting any teacher who needed extra help. We filed assignments, hung up, put together fun decorations, put textbooks onto the shelves, and brought the teachers extra supplies. We put together goodie bags for students, cleaned off desks, and put new number stickers on calculators and for desk groups. Our volunteers left each day feeling accomplished for doing everything they could to help the staff be prepared for the next school year. It’s safe to say that this was the perfect way to end the last full week of summer break, and we look forward to future service opportunities during the school year.
Long Beach Legacy Triathlon
IM, Sato, 13 South
It was a great turnout at the Long Beach Legacy’s Triathlon! We helped out with various jobs such as guiding athletes along the course, distributing snacks, and handing out medals. This event was especially great because of the amount of complimentary food, which included coffee from Dunkin’, Wetzel Bites, and Dominoes! The highlight of the day had to me the chance of meeting producers from Cocomelon and taking a memorable picture with their sponsor banner!
July Officer Training Conference
PK, River Valley, D14
On July 1st, shortly after our Division Council Meeting for the month of July, we held our Officer Training Conference. OTC was a success and super fun! With being split into four groups, each consisting of a few members, officers were able to address the concerns of members and help them more effectively. We had a fun icebreaker, which involved collecting balloons into each group's home base to win the most amount of points. OTC was very interactive and informative, thus being fun for the members as well as per member feedback. We also plan on using some of the methods we used to organize OTC for RTC as well, but we will take in constructive criticism for RTC.
