Indian Association of Northern Nevada Volunteering
NG, Damonte Ranch, D23
On May 24, 2024, the Key Club at Galena had an opportunity to volunteer at the Asian American stands in Reno’s downtown, specifically IANN’s, (Indian Association of Northern Nevada) stand. We helped set up and take down IANN’s stand, along with helping with sales, mainly selling Holi shirts and drinks. While we were there, we experienced other Asian cultures, specifically their dance and music, as there was a stage. We saw Chinese and Korean dances, and they saw Indian dances, all in one place. The switching between Indian Korean, and other music was quite interesting, as they are created very differently. I (Neel) am in the top left, and one of our vice presidents, Akhill, is in the 2 bottom photos, and our first-time secretary, Rithik, is in the top left. Here’s what he has to say about the secretary role: “Ever since becoming a secretary for Key Club, it’s been more work than I would’ve expected. However, being a secretary has opened my eyes to really what Key Club is all about. Key Club is such a great club as it helps our community on many beneficial things. Being allowed to do a multitude of projects and get volunteer hours for it has been more than great. Overall, I am excited about the future as a secretary for my club.”
May DCM
Hamna Yasir, Damonte Ranch, D23
Hi everyone! I’m Nandu, and I am the president of Galena’s key club! The May DCM was a great start to the new key club term! We first started off by painting benches and picking up trash at Manzanita Park. The weather was really nice out, and there was a lot of other volunteers helping out as well. I would say painting the benches was my favorite part. Then, we laid out picnic blankets and we started going over monthly information. Then, Sydney, our LTG introduced the new DLT and afterwards we all played fun bonding games. Overall this DCM was a great experience to meet new people and incoming key clubbers, while serving the community!
Looking Back At Our Key Club Experiences

1 -----------
"Over the past 3 years I’ve been in Key Club I have fallen in love with all aspects of it. The welcoming community has allowed me to connect and meet many new people. The service that we perform has allowed me to give back to my community and has changed my perspective on community service. From attending service events, bonding with key clubbers, and attending fun activities, like FRN, Key Club has really become an important part of who I am today. I’m super glad I joined Key Club and I can’t wait to see what this new term has in store."
2 -----------
"Joining Key Club my sophomore year opened a myriad of opportunities throughout high school I never could have expected. I met so many incredible and ambitious people through events such as DCON and FRN but also DCMs and local service events. Key Club truly allowed me to experience my community to the fullest and exercise my personal strengths and talents for the greater good. As a graduating senior, I am so grateful for all that Key Club has enabled me to achieve and discover about how I can serve my world in the future."
D30S Children's Art Festival
E.L., Savanna, D30S
Throughout the Children's Art Festival, where we artistically created projects using colored pipe cleaners to give away to children, I had an amazing time connecting and supporting the community.
As a historian, this event greatly allowed me to further develop my photography capabilities while getting to know the rest of this year's board. Although my task was to take photos, I got sidetracked with making octopi using the pipe cleaners because the younglings seemed to enjoy them. Seeing the grins put on the faces of the children made my day and motivated me to continue to make octopi.
I had a blast and recall laughing about the stage performance because they were singing about juice boxes; moreover, I was fascinated seeing the rest of the stage performances due to its variety of demonstrations, ranging from a guy singing about juice to ballet demonstrations.
D04W NMDP Event At the OC 26 Night Market
K.N., Godinez, D04W
This event was held with NMDP and its mission to help blood cancer patients. Our job as volunteers was to educate others on how their contributions could save a life, and to learn the difference between donating blood or donating bone marrow.
Additionally, we motivated them to do a cheek swab and fill out a form. This event was a continuation of a previous weekend where we got to work with the NMDP where many of our club members returned; and also where we had a special guest as our LTG, Josh, came to volunteer with our club for 5 hours that weekend.
This was an exciting event that also gave us insight into the work that is put into helping cancer patients. Working with NMDP was a great experience, a colleague, Shei, who was in charge of the event was very passionate about NMDP which motivated everyone to interact with people at the OC Night Market.
Overall, the entire event was a great time for us and we were able to accommodate a good amount of people.
