Winter Fest Ornaments
AB, Milpitas, D12E
On November 29, Milpitas Key Club held a general meeting that we have every other Wednesday in our school’s theater. At these meetings, we give updates on upcoming events such as volunteering opportunities, how to get involved with Milpitas Key Club, and even fundraisers. Towards the second half of our meetings, we also have activities for our members! At this meeting, we had ornament making activity which then we would use the ornaments our members and officers make to hang up on our Christmas tree for our school’s returning event, Winter Fest! Our members and officers made many ornaments from a wide variety and we all had so much fun expressing our love for Key Club on our ornaments! Holding these activities at our meetings let us get to know our members’ personalities more as well as engaging them more with the club itself. Seeing everyone have fun and bond together at meetings during lunch is something that we always look forward to at each meeting.
Teddy Bear Tea Auction
BM, Walnut, D35E
Walnut Ellies helped out with the Teddy Bear Tea Auction, hosted by the Walnut Valley Educational Foundation. Ellies had a blast wearing black formal clothing, acting as auctioneers, and presenting/giving out the auction items—Christmas gift baskets! The money fundraised through the auction will be used to fund teacher’s mini grants during this holiday season. Volunteers helped set up tables, food, and snacks for the buyers. They also managed the bid sheets and answered questions for the biddres. At the end, they enjoyed a wide variety of foods and snacks—ranging from donuts to fruits to turkey—as a show of “thank you” for their work. Walnut Key Club officer Joe Li reflects, “I really enjoyed the event, there was a lot of good food and the auction was fun to volunteer for.”
Animal Shelter
AL & GA., Wilson, D35W
In the month of November, we had opened up with an animal shelter volunteer event. In this event, members would be advised to help the selected animal shelter in work they would need help with. This would include cleaning or walking the dogs, cleaning dogs, or cleaning cat litter. Members could also play with the dogs while collaborating with the owners of the animal shelters to make sure the experiences for members are safe with the animals.
