Kinecta Food Drive
SD, Hawthorne, D19N
On Saturday, September 30, Kinecta High School held its 50th annual Rise Against Hunger meal-packaging day. Hawthorne High Key Club members volunteered from 8:00 am to 2:30 pm. Volunteers worked in different stations throughout the event, ranging from funneling and packaging food to sealing and weighing packages to lifting loads of food. The goal of the event was to package 50,000 meals that would then be distributed worldwide, and that number was greatly surpassed thanks to the help of volunteers like us!
Barbie Fest September DCM
DL, Oxford Academy, D30S
Division 30 South had another banger of a DCM this September. Every year, D30S tends to have a regional event called Colorfest, in which many divisions come together to play with colored powder and do service. However, this year, D30S decided to have their own version of Colorfest, called Barbiefest!
The theme was to dress up as either Barbie or Ken, and the key clubbers participated in crane making as a service event, and then they played capture the flag with powder! Afterward, there was a free-for-all, where the key clubbers played with over 100 lbs of flour. There was also a Tastea fundraiser on the same day, so many went as well. Everyone had a great time and is looking forward to the next DCM!
PB and Jammies
JL, Antelope, D44W
On Thursday, September 14th, after advertising the event at our club rush and first general meeting of the year, we had around 146 Antelope Key Clubbers in attendance at PB and Jammies; our first official event of the school year! It lasted from 6:30 to 8:30 in our school’s cafeteria. At the event, we all wore pajamas while making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, to donate to our local Roseville Salvation Army! In total, we were able to make over 1,187 sandwiches. We also played a fun icebreaker game of Soulmates, sold Otter Pops to raise club funds (the thousands of bread slices and over 40 jars of both peanut butter and jelly were not cheap…), and held a raffle where each member got a ticket and won a prize if their number was pulled!
Multicultural Festival
NH, Florin, D07S
Volunteering at the Elk Grove Multicultural Festival was a truly rewarding experience. The event offered a rich tapestry of cultural diversity, showcasing traditions, cuisines, and performances from around the world. From setting up vibrant booths to assisting in food stalls, there was an abundance of tasks to engage in. Interacting with the festival-goers was a highlight. Meeting people from various backgrounds, hearing their stories, and sharing their enthusiasm for cultural exchange was a delightful experience. Whether it was helping visitors navigate the festival's offerings or explaining the significance of different cultural displays, every interaction was an opportunity to promote unity and understanding. The festival's vibrant atmosphere was infectious. The rhythmic beats of music from different cultures filled the air, and the tantalizing aroma of international cuisines wafted through the grounds. It was a sensory journey that transported everyone to far-off lands without leaving Elk Grove. As a volunteer, I felt a sense of pride in contributing to an event that celebrated diversity and promoted inclusivity. It was heartwarming to witness people of all ages and backgrounds come together to appreciate and learn from one another. The festival truly exemplified the beauty of multiculturalism.
San Carlos Pedro Tournament
CC, Carlmont, D34N
The San Carlos Pedro Tournament is always a Key Club favorite, and was evidently shown this past weekend when I had the opportunity to volunteer! It was such a rewarding experience being able to assist in delivering food to tables, serving meals, cleaning up, and raising over $300 for the Pediatric Trauma Program. My favorite part was being able to interact with the kindhearted patrons who frequent the San Carlos Adult Community Center, and who we’ve been able to build relationships with while serving our community. All in all, I’m excited to return for another event, and am thankful for yet another wonderful time volunteering!
