Club Rush
EC, Merced, D46S
This day was a special day because it was club rush day for Merced and we had over 40+ people signed up! We had everything set up perfectly, we borrowed our Kiwin's PTP Stick and that gave us a little bit more advertising. We had two cute little cut-out boards where people could take photos with them. We gave out candy to give anyone a treat. Kiwin’s and Key Clubbers gave each other support by saying “Join both Kiwin’s and Key Club”. All in all, it was a huge success for us and our fellow Kiwin’s
Spirit Social One
Jason Huang, Enochs, D46N
D46N’s first spirit rally of the year! On Wednesday, September 6, members of D46N met up at Ustach Park for this spirit prep. In this spirit rally, we started off with a rock, paper, scissors tournament, in which I surprisingly won somehow. Afterward, we all started to learn our first new chant, and we all slowly started to forget the English language as time went on. We all had so much fun reciting our unique new chants by the spirit coords and we had so much fun. After having a quick break in between, we started to relearn the supportive chants, those that the Fall Rally North veterans knew by heart. After we learned our chants for the day, we started our lei-making. Finally, we learned how to make leis and attempted to make them ourselves. This spirit rally was fun, and I highly encourage everyone to come!
September DCM
SH, El Camino, D37W
Suns out, ORCAS OUT!! Division 37 West hosted our monthly division council meeting (DCM) AND our first preparation for Fall Rally South! You heard me Key Clubbers; it's time to put your spirit to the test. We started practicing our iconic cheer, "It's Goin Down," to get ready for our upcoming Region Training Conference spirit rally. We can't wait to see what's in store for our division! As for the DCM itself, monthly awards were handed out to clubs to recognize their dedication towards community service. Congratulations to El Camino for earning club of the month, and shoutout to Jazmine Soto and Ms. Yan for winning Member of the Month and Advisor of the Month respectively for El Camino! Keep it up wildcats!
August DCM
MPM, Helix, D31
The August DCM was held on August 27 at the Aztec Park from 11AM - 2PM. Students from Helix, Grossmont Middle College, Monta Vista, Grossmont High School and Granite Hills came together with our lieutenant governor and participated in a social event. Filsan began the meeting at approximately 11:30AM, presented herself and asked all the schools that attended what was going on with their Key Club. Like when were we going to have our first meeting of the year, when is club rush, or what plans do we have throughout the year. All schools shared at least one thing but the most common answer was they are waiting to start their first meeting until after club rush. Then Filsan said we will be doing leis and that took about an hour to complete. Everyone was struggling to make the leis but with Filsan’s help, it was much easier. Afterwards, we took a break and had some pizza, snacks, and water. The rest of the time was just chill time because we had finished the leis and nothing else was planned. During this time we were talking about how we would like to proceed with Key Club, if we were excited about RTC, and asking Filsan some remaining questions we had. Once all questions were answered, the social ended at approximately 1:30 PM.
Redwood Shores Levee Clean-up
HK, Carlmont, D34N
The Redwood Shores Levee Clean-up is an annual event taking place each August in which members from the Redwood Shores and surrounding area pick up trash. I got to Mariner Park in Redwood Shores at around seven a.m. to help set up the snacks and drinks we provided for the volunteers. Then, I set off to pick up trash in the surrounding areas of the park. I not only bonded with the other Key Club members at the service event, but I also met many other people, such as RCSA (Redwood Shores Community Association) board members. The landscaping along Redwood Shores I explored throughout the clean-up was beautiful, and I enjoyed knowing I was helping my environment by participating. After the clean-up, I helped to put away the set up of snack and water tables, and said goodbye to the new people I met. This event was genuinely enjoyable for me, and I look forward to attending next year.
