August DCM
RD, Damonte, D23
August DCM was really fun. The main event was the talent show and the PTP fundraiser where we would pay for the best talent and that money would go to PTP! This was definitely one of my top favorite DCMS because, even though I didn’t participate in the talent show, I really enjoyed watching all the talents and having fun. I could tell everyone was enjoying it and some people put their best efforts into their talent, and others had a lot of fun with it too! If we did another talent show DCM I would totally participate seeing how everyone was comfortable with each other. The ice-breakers were also very fun and bonding. We all got to know more about each other and it was fun. Even though the tables we usually set-up for the DCMs were booked, we were having just as much fun in the grass and it was awesome!
San Carlos Hawaiian Luau
CC, Carlmont, D34N
The San Carlos Hawaiian Luau was yet another great experience at the Adult Community Center! Volunteers were able to help serve and clean up after a traditional Hawaiian dinner and performance, ultimately experiencing the festivities and music along with the Adult Community Center patrons in attendance. It was so rewarding to help others while having a great time, and my favorite part of the night was definitely learning how to do the Hukilau dance with my fellow Key Clubbers. I’m excited to return to the center for another service opportunity!
Kelly's Closet
KT, Costa Mesa, D04C
On August 12th, CMHS Key Club, along with OCC Circle K, ECHS Key Club, EHS Key Club, and the Costa Mesa Kiwanis, participated in Kelly’s Closet, an annual service event in which we help low-income children, chosen by the Girls & Boys Club, shop for school clothes at Macy’s, complete a STEM project, and obtain school supplies. The day started off with some volunteers being paired with children to go to Macy's while other volunteers stayed back to set up the STEM activity and lunch. At Macy's each child, mentored by their volunteers, got the opportunity to shop for school clothes with a $200 budget. Back at the Boys & Girls Club, we ate lunch provided by Newport Rib Company and completed a STEM activity in which we built solar paneled cars. As the children were leaving, they got their Macy's bag of clothes, a backpack, a computer, school supplies, and a mental health goodie bag. The goal of this event is to provide children with the tools they need to thrive in school, and we hope we did just that.
Back to School Night
MP, Cesar Chavez, D27N
Back to School Night transformed into an exciting and meaningful occasion for our Key Club this year. It provided us with a dynamic platform to not only have fun but also raise funds for important initiatives like the PTP or just to support of own club. What truly made the evening exceptional was witnessing our club members wholeheartedly engage with the local community, forging connections beyond the ordinary school event. For many of our members, this event marked their inaugural opportunity to accrue service hours, an essential aspect of our club's mission. The success of our fundraising efforts was a testament to the hard work and dedication of our board members, who collaborated seamlessly to plan and execute the event. As we reflect on Back to School Night, we are filled with pride and a sense of fulfillment, knowing that we not only had a fantastic time but also made a tangible difference in our school and community. It was a reminder of the Key Club's powerful impact when we unite for a common goal, and we eagerly anticipate more opportunities to serve and continue building these valuable connections.
Banana Festival
KN, John F. Kennedy, D07N
Key Clubbers always want the community to enjoy and have fun at an event. At the Banana Festival in William Land Park, Key Clubbers set up a play area for the kids, as well as a shooting game, sold ice cream, and helped the staff. The money the Key Clubbers earned from the ice cream was donated to an organization that helps prevent kids from head injury. Many parents and kids could enjoy the kid's area and the Banana Festival with the help of Key Clubbers.
