SanriO-TC
SA, Da Vinci High School, Division 19 North
On Saturday, July 1, 2023 Division 19 North and Division 19 South held SanriO-TC to start the 2023-2024 term, beginning with a warm welcome and a fun icebreaker for collaboration. This was followed by awards, officer training, and games. Afterward, both divisions were brought together for a delicious lunch. Then returned to officer training to learn club information and advice. SanriO-TC was concluded with a raffle and cheers as Kaycee and Kylie said their goodbyes and the penguins and bunnies went off to take pictures with Tuxedo Sam and My Melody. Da Vinci Key Club was so excited to participate in this year's first OTC! We are so glad to have this opportunity to communicate with other clubs and can’t wait for the next event to hang with our fellow penguins and bunnies!
Food Pantry
RD, Arroyo, D35W
During the entirety of summer break, the Arroyo Seals were able to provide quality service towards our local food pantry, called Our Saviour Food Pantry. On Tuesdays and Thursdays every week throughout the summer, the seals had a chance to volunteer from 8AM to 1PM, getting a chance to interact with people, organize and pass out food for the people in our community who are less fortunate. From frozen tamales to fresh berries, the seals spent countless hours giving out food and helping them take it to their cars. It provided a chance to get to know how a food pantry works and it enabled seals to provide service as well as have fun with other seals by bonding over these kinds of service events.
Ocean Beach Cleanup
LW, Jefferson, D34N
During the Ocean Beach Cleanup, I worked individually to clean the coast as I could not find the other Key Clubbers. Using my plastic bag and gloves, I started by picking up trash along the pathways people were crossing. I wasn't able to find much litter at the beginning other than some plastic wrappers and cigarettes. When I searched in a more isolated location; however, I found tons of trash that were likely left there for a long time. I was able to fill my bag with a large quantity of garbage after some time. It was interesting to me how there were various types of material left on the beach and how the older age of the garbage makes it blend more with its surroundings. I eventually found our club members and grouped up with them at the end of the service event to discard the pile I had collected.
June DCM
MV, Edison, D27S
During the June DCM held at Mountain House Central Park, the central theme of the event was a Koi-nival. Attending members got to enjoy things such as carnival-themed snacks, games such as a bean bag toss and horseshoe, and even got to pie the DLT! Some members even went to the local playground to climb there. Nearby, there was a large climbing set-up and a basketball court that several members went to after club updates were over. Provided at the DCM was also another service opportunity for all of the members: folding origami cranes! Overall, the June DCM was a very eventful day and a great way to enjoy the middle of summer break.
Charity Miles Walk
CQ, Alameda, D02S
In the month of June, Alameda Key Club held one service event and attended one interclub event. This included the Charity Miles Walk Event we held on June 13th, where Key Clubbers could bond and earn community service hours. Alameda Key Club also attended the Sign Planting Event on June 28th with Encinal, where we put up ‘No Parking’ signs in the zone of the Alameda July 4th Parade. Entering Summer, this was a harder month for our club due to low availability in schedules. Only a few officers and members were able to make it to our events. Moving forward, we hope to add more diversity in the types of events/fundraisers put out, hopefully bringing more members to participate. Stay tuned for new and exciting plans!
