February DCM
GM, Santa Teresa, D12S
The February DCM 2023 was a great experience coming back from the winter break. Meeting up with fellow supervillains was refreshing for many and a relaxing meetup for D12 South. Having a follow-up with other D12 South members and their recent events has really strengthened the bonds between our divisions. The event consisted of making flowers and lanterns which really brightened the event and our day. The arts and crafts we made were an interactive experience that we were able to enjoy with our supervillains and a great event. In addition, we were able to see our new LTG Sidney Nguyen in action as she was presenting the DCM. Seeing this new face of our LTG was amazing and we all saw how well she would do in the position. In conclusion, the event was refreshing and a good experience for D12 South.
UCSD X D46N Love Letters for Literacy Social
LN, Enochs, D46N
On Sunday, March 12, from 4-6 PM, D46N Key Club teamed up with UC San Diego Circle K for the first time to create alphabet flashcard kits for the organization “Love Letters for Literacy,” which equips low-income families with resources to teach their children how to read. 17 people attended the event including Adrienne, a former Enochs Key Club president and beloved alumni. For the 1st hour, Key Clubbers and Circle K members created alphabet flashcards together and really questioned their knowledge of what else starts with A other than apple? For 15 minutes, Circle K also presented tips on navigating the college application process with ease, as well as how to pick the right college for you. For the last half of the event, members played Gartic Phone! Lastly, prizes were also given out at the end of the event to members, who could increase their chances of winning by arriving earliest, staying the longest, making the most flashcards, or having the best Gartic Phone drawings. 1 Key Club member walked away with a $50 Amazon gift card! I personally really enjoyed the first Key Club Zoom event in almost a year; the atmosphere reminded me of why I fell in love with Key Club in the first place!
Women’s History Month Infographics Event
HL, Clovis West, D05N
Representing the March Women’s History Month, Clovis West Key Club hosted a Women’s History Month Infographics event. Each individual member created digital infographics to raise awareness about women’s history! We created fabulous-looking infographics that represented the greatness of women’s history. We truly appreciate the great achievements they made throughout history and we will never forget their efforts. The colorful visual aspects of each project effectively showed our members’ awareness of the event. We are planning on continuously hosting the event each year so that the legacy would last. We as Key Clubbers will always remember and will make history ourselves too!
Bookmark Event
SF, Temecula Valley, D37N
At the beginning of the month, we held another in-meeting service event! This time, we were making bookmarks to donate to the Temecula Public Library. Everyone at the meeting participated, and twenty-two took credit for their bookmarks. The meeting gave a maximum of 2 hours (1 hour per bookmark) and was a hit amongst our members! Along with the Temecula Public Library, some of the bookmarks went to our school librarian, who expressed so much joy and thanked Key Club for their kind donation. The Temecula Public Library also expressed our thanks, and these messages were relayed to our members to encourage them to continue participating in events like these and make our community a better place!
Montgomery Garden Volunteering
RS, Kearny, D21
Around 9:00 in the morning, President Katelynn and myself met in front of Montgomery Middle School for our planned restoration of the garden. Key Club has helped with the garden in the past with similar restorations, so this was just another routine maintenance. Once we walked over to the garden entrance in the back, we waited in front of the gate for someone to let us in. After a short while, we had some short introductions with our team for the day in the garden and split up to get to work. Our job this time was to clean up the gazebo area and replace some of the withered floorboards with newly painted ones. Throughout our time there we had many interesting conversations and got the gazebo looking good again. We did everything from pulling weeds, cutting, painting, and installing wooden planks, and picking up trash. Later that morning, Vice President of Finance Long helped us with the remaining duties and finished up with us. Although we didn’t completely finish the restoration, we made great progress and met some very cool people. It was a great experience!
