Conclave
San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts, D11
Conclave was a great experience as someone who attended as a member for the first time! I found it intresting to watch and understand the way voting for LTG works. The formality of the event really succeeded in keeping a professional environment such as dressing business casual and only having deligates vote to keep away bias voting. It really performed well and I loved seeing the way the two running LTG canidates expressed their love for keyclub and gave their all into why they felt they were the best for the position. I got a taste into the way our division will be ran next term and it was a special experience to witness. Especially the amount of love given to both candidates after the next term’s LTG was announced was so amazing to see, all the hugs and words of encouragement. I really enjoyed the experience and I can’t wait to experience it again next year!
Spring Into Action DCM
NN, Lakewood High School, D13N
On February 25th, Lakewood Key Club attended D13N Spring Into Action DCM! This DCM as always was held at Bellflower Kiwanis Hall but moved earlier in the day due to weather conditions so that hopefully more people could make it. Before it had started everybody was told to bring a blanket or plushie and a board game so that we could keep warm in the cold weather and just vibe to some games! One person even brought their Wii so that people could just dance on it! When most of the chairs in the Hall filled up we started with an Ice breaker called Psychiatrist. It's a game where a person has to guess what move everybody does before answering their question! It was super fun watching the other people trying to figure out what move everybody was doing and I think everybody enjoyed it by how loud they were laughing. Quickly after we went over Old business then New business and finished with Recognitions. Alena (our MRC) also had some news to tell us saying how she was moving away and it was gonna be her last DCM with us:( We went on to play some of the Board games and you could tell how much enjoyment everybody was having from all of the screams! Overall this DCM was super successful and chill!
Lakewood Run
JL, Millikan High School, D13S
Standing in front of Gompers K-8 school early in the morning and watching the runners pass by us while we were cheering for them. It was an event where everyone could laugh, scream, cheer, and smile at one another. We were handling out water as well as picking up the cups the runners dropped. Seeing all the runners smiling at us while we were cheering for them boosted our energy to be louder. We all made great memories from this event.
Valetine's Day Flower Stand
CM, Legacy High School, D13W
The week before Valentine’s Day, Legacy Key Club had a presale of flowers including: a single rose for 3 dollars, rose bunch (3 roses & baby’s breath) for 8 dollars, and half dozen (6 roses & baby’s breath) for 15 dollars. People who ordered flowers were allowed two options: sending flowers to the person of choice on the day of valentine’s day and picking up the roses on Valentines. Sales were slow the first few couple of days, but towards the last three days sales were higher. On the Valentine's day sale, many board members were there to sell and deliver flowers. In addition to the stand, we also had games and prizes. One of the participants' friends would spin them around blindfolded and the participant would try to stick the heart on the bear. There was an easy, medium and hard mode. If they won, they received candy as a prize. Everyone had fun and we made over 100 dollars in profit.
Valentines Day Fundraiser
GM, Evergreen, D12S
The valentines gram fundy was an extremely fun and memorable event for me. Although it is an annual EVKC event, every year is a different experience that equally brings lots of heartwarming surprises and enjoyment to me. Working alongside my lovely officers from putting together event to carrying the event out, we were happy and relieved in the end because the event turned out great. Watching as the members purchase valentine grams and write the personalized for the people they love, it made me personally feel even more grateful because I, an officer was able to take part in someone’s expression of affection for another person by delivering the gram in person for them. Every part of it was a favorite, but if I had to choose one it would still be probably delivering the grams to the person. Knocking on classroom doors and carrying boxes and boxes of teddy bear chocolate roses, it was exciting stepping into each classroom and reading out the names of the person who received a gram. Their joyful and shocked faces always make me giggle, but at the same time I am happy to see them receive affection on the day of love; Valentine's Day!
