Saturday Gathering
VC, Mckinleyville, D20
On August 20th, we had the pleasure of participating in the Saturday Gathering services of the Church of the Joyful Healer, where the members of our club were able to come together with their youth group and help provide food to the unhoused. It was a very positive experience. We served hot dogs, watermelon, salad, drinks, and more, and we were even able to help with another fundraiser in the process, where one person had us help decorate reusable utensils that he was going to then sell to raise money for the unhoused population. It was a great opportunity and a wonderful way to kick off the school year!
Park Avenue Back to School Night
NT, Yuba City, D14
My experience at the Park Avenue Back to School Night was fantastic! I enjoyed being there very much. Everyone was super nice and we put hair tinsels on peoples hair. Afterwards, they gave us free snow cones and popcorn. I look forward to volunteering with them again this year!
Blues, Brews, and BBQs
ZM, River Valley, D14
After joining Key Club, one of my very first events was Blues, Brews, & BBQs. At the event, I served food and helped clean up afterwards. I served pulled pork onto hoagie rolls. After serving the meat, I helped clean up the seating arrangements and the food booths. Also, I met new people from not just my school but other schools as well. I expected community service to be serious but it was very fun and engaging. I had a great time at the event and the free pizza for volunteering was a delicious bonus.
Uhuru Foods and Pies
RW, Albany, D02N
Uhuru Foods and Pies was a super fun event where members were able to sell delicious pies. During this festival, where the sale was located, it was very lively making the event extremely successful. Also, Uhuru Pies uses these pie sales to build an independent economy for African people. So this service event was a great opportunity to help impact the African American community.
Chocolate and Chalk Art Festival
RW, Albany, D02N
In the Chocolate and Chalk Art Festival, which happened after our division bake sale, volunteers were able to choose from a variety of services. Some of those services consisted of distributing menus and balloons to restaurants, helping out with different booths and tasks, and much more! This event’s spots filled up instantly and volunteers had a blast helping out with all the different service opportunities.
