Clairemont Food Distribution
MV, SDSCPA, D11
At the Skyline and Clairemont food distributions, families/people would stop by the rec centers to pick up food. At these events, we were tasked to distribute food bags. There were more volunteers at the skyline event than the one held in Clairemont, we had more to do at the Clairemont distribution. At Clairemont, we set up multiple bags and sets of food for the families and people who came. Volunteering at both events made me feel very helpful since the families who stopped by actually needed these bags of food to feed their household and there was a lot of food in the bags. The adult who was in charge was kind enough to stay with us until our ride came which I thought was nice. Overall, I had a fun time at these events because they were very chill.
Hollywood Canyon Restoration
MC, SDSCPA, D11
On July 23, I attended the restoration at Hollywood Canyon! With other volunteers, I removed brush and grasses that could be a fire hazard. Not only did we remove grasses, but we also took weeds and invasive species. I learned about the effects of invasive species and where they came from. This was a really interesting event that helped the environment! I hope there will be more events like this!
Skyline Food Distribution
LW, SDSCPA, D11
Volunteering for the food distribution event was super fun. The man in charge of everything was SO SO NICE. He made sure to get to know all of the volunteers by name and make us feel comfortable. A bunch of different people would come to the door to grab food, and the volunteers just needed to deliver the bags there. There were a bunch of kids in the room next door to us and we were hanging out with them for a bit. Before those kids left, we gave them some bags of food to take home to their families. Everyone helping was just so friendly I RATE THIS A 10/10.
Sunrise Athletics Course
JL, Waiakea, D22M
The Sunrise Athletics Obstacle Course Fun Runs took place on Sunday, July 3, 2022. This event was located at Bayfront Soccer Fields and lasted from 7:00 AM-10:30 AM. It was an outdoor event and it was a rainy morning. All Key Club members were invited to this event if they had signed up for it. This event was held to help set up the different types of obstacle courses and help clean up after the event. The different types of obstacle courses included potato sack, mini hurdles, a crawl station, bucket toss, soccer dribble and shoot, bear crawl, water tube run through, water gauntlet, and a plank walk. For these different obstacle courses, members had to stay at their assigned course, wait until participants came to them, and cheer and guide the participants to where they needed to go. After all the participants had completed the race, members had to help pack and load things away. We completed the event an hour earlier than anticipated and were able to leave after clean-up.
Rail Painting Project
JL, Castle, D22K
On July 2, 2022, Castle Key Club members, along with other Key Clubs and Kiwanis Clubs, contributed to a rail painting project. The project was held at Windward Community College. Members cleaned the rails using sandpaper to get off any flakes, as well as remove bird poop. When that was done, members split into 2’s and painted the rails, making sure the outside and the inside of the railings were painted. Although it was a bit hot, members enjoyed this project because many enjoy painting projects.
