Region 8 RTC
JL, Lakewood, D13N
On October 14 2023, Region 8 held its annual RTC, also referred to as Star Wars-TC! Region Training Conference is held day-long with a variety of workshops for members to learn from each other. This year's RTC was planned at Carson High School on a clear sunny day. The divisions that attended were Divisions 13 North, South, and West, as well as Divisions 19 North and South. Lakewood Key Club was one of the various clubs participating in the event. At the event, we were provided a brief run down of the stations we’d be visiting, lunch, and the final showdown for the spirit stick. At the stations, we were presented with educational material about leadership in Key Club. You could learn about historians, spirit teams, and so much more. Lunch was included with the additional fee, and it was an exhilarating experience. As you walked around the grass area, you could see the many methods that some of the schools came up with to help ease the environment. As lunch came to an end, the most exciting part of RTC was stirring up. We gathered with Division 13 North and practiced our cheers one final time before the showdown. The divisions then made their way to the gym as they prepared themselves for the main event. The showdown then commenced, where each division performed their amazing and unique cheers. All of the divisions showed incredible sportsmanship, as they encouraged and cheered each other on. In the end, the spirit stick was granted to Division 13 South by the judge's decision. Truely, RTC was a great bonding experience, as we all motivated each other’s spirits.
Harvest Carnival
JA, Mission Vista, D37W
Less than five minutes away from our school sits the elementary school Mission Meadows! On Friday the 13th, they held a harvest carnival where our key clubbers helped to run booths. Some of us dressed in costume and we had lots of fun helping out. Shayla Do, Kaitlyn Doan, and Jessica Amoranto had the honor of running the cake walk activity where children dance and then pick a number to sit on. By the spin wheel, the chosen number will receive a cake of their choice! There were so many cakes and desserts such as cupcakes and cakepops! It was tons of fun to dance with the kids and see all the cool costumes! It was a great start to the Halloween spooky season!
