St. Jerome's Church Food Distribution
KJ, Albany & El Cerrito, D02N
On a Wednesday morning, July 9th, Key Clubbers from Albany and El Cerrito volunteered at an interclub service together. At St. Jerome Church in El Cerrito, we helped out at a food pantry that feeds people in need twice a month. There were many kind volunteers helping us, ranging from young children to senior citizens. We started out by organizing various types of breads, produce, meats, and packaged goods into boxes so that it would be easier for people to find what food they needed. While we were working on that, some of the other members helped hang secondhand clothing on a rack, since we were also going to give out free clothing to the people. When everyone finished organizing all the food and clothing, the food pantry opened. A long line of parents and families wrapped around the church, ready to receive food. For the second part of our service, each volunteer helped hold the food for the families as they walked along the line of food. Then, we helped bring the groceries to the cars of the families in case they were physically unable to do so themselves. The families were very appreciative of us volunteers helping them out. Overall, I really enjoyed volunteering at this food distribution event with El Cerrito Key Club. Events like these bring members from Albany and El Cerrito Key Clubs closer together, and I hope to attend another service like this soon in the future!
