Cherrywood's Celebration
KT, Piedmont, D12E
It was a really hot day when I arrived at Cherrywood around 1PM with Dhanvitha (I was busy before that so I came later but Ella was in charge of the event before that), we spotted Vicky at the front helping the lady with food tickets and she gave us our food tickets and said the others are inside. Then, Dhanvitha and I walked inside, and we saw Ella and Kevin standing right in the middle, doing the bubble shift. They were playing around with the bubbles a little with us and said they had already eaten lunch a few times before we came. Then they pointed at Vincent where he was standing collecting food tickets for tacos. We walked over to him and talked a little, and then me and Dhanvitha left to go to our booth. Once we get to our booth, there's really nothing much to do there because everyone seems like they don't need our help so we just sit there and make ourselves a paper hand fan. It's kinda surprising that not that many people at the craft table because usually there will be lots of kids there, so Dhanvitha and I just talked about random things but I found a spongebob fan on the table that someone left it there, and I was really grateful for it at that moment because the hand fan that I made, it doesn't help at all so I snatched it immediately and start using it everywhere. Since there were not that many people at the craft table and there were more volunteers coming, we decided to explore a little around but it was so hot that it made me not want to walk anywhere at all. Around 2, we took a group picture with everyone at the photobooth and we sat at the tree later playing Charades while waiting for Kevin to get picked up. Later, Dhanvitha, the nicest person ever, bought me and her both shaved ice and in that heat, it was the most wonderful thing ever. Before I left Cherrywood, because I saw Kevin got a free pizza box to bring home earlier, I decided to go ask for one too because I need more food at home and I didn't use my food ticket yet. I also went to get tacos and egg rolls. They were all so nice when giving me the food and didn't even take the ticket. It was pretty fun because this was my first event except for the part that it was extremely hot outside which burned me.
Pasta Dinner
RI, Carlmont, D34C
The Pasta Dinner event at Henry Ford Elementary School was on Friday, May 16th. It was an amazing event held by the PTA of the school and there were booths where kids could play such as bean bag toss, toy car ramp, mini golf, etc., and we volunteers helped run these booths. All volunteers were assigned two shifts to work at one or two booths. For example, I was assigned to run the tic-tac-toe booth where kids threw three balls to the grid to win prizes. The balls were hard to get them to stick to the grid board, so every kid who tried the game won a prize, and their parents also seemed to be having fun watching their kids play. I was at the tic tac toe booth for nearly three hours, but it was never boring! Children came to play continuously, some of them coming back to play more, and I chatted with a few and got to know them. Overall since I love kids I had so much fun just watching them play and have a good time with their friends! I recommend other members of the club to volunteer at these types of events if they like watching children.
