Teacher Team Up
NN, Piedmont Hills, D12E
After not having attended a Key Club event in a few weeks nor being at school for a whole summer, I was excited as I entered Piedmont Hills High for Key Club's annual Teacher Teamup event! Once I entered Mrs. C's room and checked in with Rachael, the officer in charge, I quickly walked to Mr. Ferguson's room to help set up his room. I conveniently met up with Solika there, and together we began removing various cards off of Mr. Ferguson's wall. Our first task of the day was to remove all of the cards from one of the walls in the classroom and re-staple them onto the new bulletin board. We've never actually removed staplers from a wall before, and assumed that the staplers somehow folded like they did when they stapled papers. As a result, we had no idea how to remove the staplers holding the cards to the wall, and only after asking Mr. Ferguson did we realize that they are just pushed right into the wall and can be removed by using a traditional stapler remover. Since we only had one stapler remover, the both of us took turns using scissors, the stapler remover, and eventually our bare hands to remove all of the staples holding the cards on the wall. Although it should have been a pretty boring task, being able to chit chat and listen to music made it really enjoyable. After successfully removing all of the staples, we began restapling the cards onto the bulletin board and agreed on arranging them in the shape of a heart. While doing this, we belted our hearts out to songs like "Night Changes" by One Direction and caught up on what we did this summer. After finally finishing that, we walked back to Mrs. C's room and helped her organize boxes of Key Club memorabilia, which was also our last task of the day. Overall, the Teacher Teamup event was a great way to ease back into volunteering and reconnect with people I haven't seen all summer!
