Rose Float Decorating
TN, University, D04C
On Friday, December 29th, University High School Key Club members went with Division 4 Central and Division 4 South to the Phoenix Decorating Company facility in Irwindale, CA to help prep and decorate for the upcoming Rose Float Parade. Starting bright and early, UNI and Trabuco Hill Key Club members were assigned to work on the Newport Beach float, the longest float in the parade’s history! After meeting with the float’s crew chief, Tim, members were delegated different responsibilities like prepping flowers or gluing them onto the float. One of UNI’s members was lucky enough to go on top of the float and work on gluing flowers onto the actual float, while the rest of the group got to prep the flowers by removing them from their stem and placing glue on the backs of them. Being able to work together on one specific float the entire day with other division members was an incredible way to truly get to know each other, see everybody’s artistic skills come to life, and make new friends! Rose Float Decorating with the divisions was such a joyous event and UNI definitely can’t wait to come back next year and work with Tim and the Phoenix Decorating Company again!
Tamura Movie Night
KD, Ocean View, D04W
On December 27th, Ocean View Key Club members went to a fellow board member's house to bake and decorate fresh new cookies. This event was super important to our school’s club because it involved many members and united the club. We started the event by eating delicious food that the other members of the Key Club brought, from chicken to pizza. We were stuffed with delight. Then we began to bake the cookies. First, we smoothed out the dough, then we put it on trays. Finally, we set the oven to 350 degrees and let it bake. Afterward, we took the dough out and covered it with unique decorations. From sprinkles to frosting to anything else we could put on top, many of our members enjoyed this event, which made them want to be more involved in Key Club for more memories like this one. The night ended with us going past the original end time limit and sitting around one another, talking and laughing. We had an amazing potluck with delicious food and a great cookie social. We can’t wait to do this again next year.
D23 Conclave Recap
SD, Ocean View, D23
My name is Sydney, and I am excited to be elected as Division 23’s upcoming Lieutenant Governor! I am currently a sophomore at Damonte Ranch High School as a part of their Performing Arts dance program. I can’t wait to see what the future holds and what we can accomplish together. Key Club has always been a place of community and fun for me, so I am grateful for the opportunity to be able to serve everyone at a higher level :D I do feel nervous jumping into this position, but I do not doubt that with each other’s support, we will be able to serve our home, school, and community more than ever before. I hope that everyone is doing well as I wish you happiness and prosperity in this new year :)
D16 Conclave Recap
KS, Washington, D16
On January 20th, we elected our 2024 - 2025 Lieutenant Governor, Aaron Limb. His platform, “DREAM” was very profound and you can see how passionate he is about receiving this position. It has been great seeing him go from being a member, then his home club secretary, and to now the new Lieutenant Governor. I trust that Division 16 Oasis will be in good hands.
PBJ Making
VW, Franklin, D07S
Once again, Franklin Key Club hosted a PB&J-making service event for the homeless with our Kiwanis branch. From the setting up of all the necessary ingredients to the making of sandwiches and packing them, I could tell how enthusiastic everyone was, even after a long school day. For me personally, I felt satisfied that I could give back to my community in such a simple, but impactful way through food. Thanks to our willing Key Clubbers, we produced over a hundred sandwiches, which were donated to a local homeless shelter! We were amazed by the turnout, and are even more grateful for our advisors Mr. Shimada and Mrs. Ilsley for helping out. We will continue to host this event or similar ones in the future, so be sure to stop by next time!
